The 1. JTD engine is generally robust, but it’s not immune to problems. Common issues include EGR valve failures, turbocharger problems, and electrical gremlins. The absolute top engine of this generation was the 1. JTDm with 150 hp, which optimally combined reliability, economy and sufficient power. Major engine damage due to neglected maintenance or overheated engines was not uncommon with the powerful V6 petrol engines.
